Well, I figured if I'm gonna make this forum start running I ought to start posting up content so newcomers have something to read. So Enjoy a short story I wrote!
Fog rolled over the dilapidated ruins of a Gothic styled church that sat in the lower streets of New York City. The weather man had predicted a cold front, Jace cursed him silently as he shuddered in the cold, the man was right. But he had to admit even if it wasn't for the bone chilling wind goosebumps still would have traced his arms. The Courtyard in front of him looked more like a cemetery than any church he'd ever been to. In front of him loosely hung a wrought Iron gate, the tips pointed with arrows, the concrete which held the hinges long past it's life expectancy. Large arches carved with strange markings and Gothic designs reminded him of something out of a Buffy the Vampire Slayer Movie. He wondered if this was really a Divine Sanctuary or Satan's vacation home. The Fair haired boy smirked at his own thought of blasphemy. Jace wasn't religious, which caused him to wonder what he was doing here in the first place. It was probably the intricate architecture and overall mysteriousness of the building that attracted him the most.
Rubbing his arms through the thin material of Under Armor he was dressed in the boy shuddered once again. Jace exhaled a white puff of air before looking up, through the narrow slits of the gate and saw a silhouette approaching, her soft footsteps over the snow sounded like nails on a chalkboard in the dead silence of night. The approaching girl was an old friend of his, but he stood his ground and shuffled in place, trying to keep warm. The figure approached and Jace could see her in full detail. Her auburn hair spilled over her shoulder, her face angled and narrow, she had more of a cute appearance than anything. She was slender and short, but her size only complimented her appearance that much more. She stopped a few feet short and stared into him with emerald eyes, the moonlight glinting off them like crystals. The brown haired boy shivered and spoke sarcastically, a hint of playful disdain in his voice.af
"What? No friendly hug, no kiss on the cheek?"
The girl did nothing but stare into him, tears stung at her eyes, but she refused to look away. Jace had not done anything to her in particularly, but instead it was the things he had done to other's. The simple man standing opposite her may have looked innocent and virtuous, but in reality he was a heartless bastard that only took care of him self. And he knew it, Jace was well aware of his arrogance and selfishness, however it didn't stop him from being so. He thought it to be one of his best traits, it wasn't easy being cold hearted. The girl spat out a couple of words, anger filled her lungs at first, but the underlying hint of sadness and despair was all too noticeable, despite her best efforts to keep emotions to a minimum.
"Shut Up, You know why I'm here!"
She took a step forward into the light, no longer shrouded by shadows. In the light a white scar was barely noticeable on her collar bone. Something glinted in her hand, but her long white sweater hid the object from sight. The sweater was a plain white with fringes extending past the edges, she wore a plaid skirt with black leggings underneath. Jace did not match the step forward as he knew exactly why she was here. They had gotten into a little skirmish by the river. Jace had won, but even though he was fighting a girl, she had her wits about her and nearly put him down. His last resort was a quick dagger stab to the neck and hightail it home.
"Alexis, look, I didn't know who it was!" Jace spoke pleadingly, but the sinister twist of coldness still hadn't left his voice.
"That doesn't change anything! You're the one who choose to get involved!"
The man sighed, knowing full well she was right. See, the little quarrel between the two started with the assassination of Alexis's father, his killer was none other than Jace. Although at the time he hadn't known he who he was killing. He had simply been hired out by some low threat crime syndicate, when it came to food and shelter people did most anything to keep it. Some sold newspapers, some ran businesses, Jace killed people. He wasn't particularly proud of the fact, but it was his job and he viewed it as such. Alexis on the other hand considered it an unforgivable act of brutal murder. She had sworn an oath to avenge her father, unknowing the killer was her closest friend. a tear rolled down her cheek as there was a sharp hiss of moving steel and the seven inch dagger concealed under her sweater flipped out and slashed towards Jace. The blade was aimed for his heart, where she planned to stab him, taking his life the same way he had taken her father's.
But quickly there was another hiss of steel on leather as Jace drew a dagger of equivalent size and parried the initial blow. He lunged forward and held the blade to Alexis' throat, she felt the cold steel and a prick of pain as a line of blood formed. Jace had put just enough pressure to pierce skin, but not cut any major veins or arteries. She swallowed hard, Jace's speed and strength greatly outmatched her own, the simple fact that she even came here was beyond her. It was on a whim and she acted without thinking rationally, maybe she could apologize and try to move on, but the very depths of her heart prevented her from doing so. Jace closed his eyes and sighed, he muttered a single word, this time despair haunted his voice, his tone greatly contrasting his previous self. This were to be his final words to his long lost friend, they were simple but contained an intense amount of emotion, his eyes began to water so he hung his head down to avoid being seen my Alexis. His hair fell well into his eyes.
"Goodbye, Alexis Rose..."
His muscles tensed as he slashed him arm sideways, severing the girl's jugular and extending the blade to slice most of the nerves in the spinal cord. The girl collapsed to the ground and bled out, wailing silently in pain, her white sweater soon turning a dark red, a pool of blood spreading out from around her. She hung desperately to life as she saw Jace wipe his blade and turn around, never looking back as he headed back home. A single tear fell from the boy's face before being consumed by the already sodden ground. Alexis would never know of the single tear Jace shed, but as she soon gave up on life as figure cloaked in brown robes emerged from inside of the church and knelt beside Alexis, moving his hands over the girl in a rhythmic fashion, tracing small circles around her body. A Green glow illuminated the area around him, light pouring from his hands, intensifying with each completed circle. Soon, in a matter of minutes, the nearly decapitated head of Alexis was now fully attached, the bleeding stopped and the scar healing. As Jace walked away from the scene he thought he had seen the last of Alexis Rose, but he was wrong.
